Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Starting Monday, April 1, 2024, Fort Lauderdale will see the beginning of a significant intersection improvement project at Las Olas Boulevard and Southeast 3rd Avenue. The Highway Construction and Engineering Division is in charge of the project, which aims to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in this part of the city.
Key components of the improvement project include “upgrades of the existing span wire supported traffic signal system to a mast arm supported traffic signal system,” which will provide a more durable and visually appealing traffic control system. Additionally, the project will involve “milling and resurfacing of the intersection asphalt pavement” to ensure a smoother ride for vehicles. To enhance visibility and safety, new “signing and pavement markings” will be implemented, along with “upgrades of the existing pedestrian curb ramps to meet current standards.”

Funding for this initiative comes from the state gas tax. The project is slated for completion in February 2025, although this timeline could change due to “unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays.”
During construction, contractor personnel and inspection staff will work closely with residents and businesses in the construction area to minimize impacts caused by the project, ensuring that the community is kept informed and any disruptions are managed effectively.
