Miami-Dade School Board approves major expansion to ease overcrowding at Riverside Elementary

Miami, Florida – Riverside Elementary School in Miami-Dade County is set to receive a major transformation thanks to a $21.6 million investment approved by the School Board during its recent meeting. The goal of the major restoration and expansion project is to make the school’s facilities significantly better and make room for more students in a modernized learning space.
The architectural and engineering firm Gurri Matute, P.A. won the project, which is a big improvement for the campus that was established in 1990. The school is now around four acres and has two permanent buildings that can hold 835 students. The planned work consists of both fixing up old buildings and building a new one on the same location.
A new building with an area of 23,387 square feet is an important component of the project. This extension will have 396 new student stations and a teacher planning office. This will help alleviate crowding and meet the demands of the staff. The new building will be connected to Building 1 by a covered walkway. This will make it easier to move between the two buildings and keep people safe during bad weather.
The new building’s ground floor will have two uses. It will serve as a shelter and have areas for recreation, such as basketball courts, bleachers, and a scoreboard. This will make physical education more enjoyable for students.
The school grounds will also get some improvements, in addition to the building itself. The design includes new parking places, a specific area for parents to drop off their kids, and better walking paths. There will also be a new road for getting to and from campus to help traffic flow better, and the landscaping will be upgraded to give the school a fresh look and feel.

The whole project should be done by November 2027, which shows a long-term commitment to the achievement of students and the community. The upgrades are part of the district’s larger plan to renovate school buildings and give students good places to learn and thrive.
