Miami Beach, Florida – The City of Miami Beach is set to launch a grand celebration of global Pride Month with a special ceremony planned for June 7th. This event, organized by the LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee, promises to be a vibrant showcase of unity and diversity, symbolizing the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.

Celebrating Progress and Inclusion

The event will take place at the Euclid Oval on the intersection of Lincoln Road and Euclid Avenue at 3 p.m., marking an annual tribute to the progress sparked by the Stonewall Uprising in 1969. Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez, an openly gay member of the community, highlighted the significance of this celebration. “It’s important to celebrate the progress we’ve made as a nation since the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan,” Fernandez stated. “Even now — 55 years later — our community still struggles to overcome ignorance and intolerance. I’m proud to live in a community that celebrates LGBTQIA+ pride every day of the year.”

A Colorful Display of Unity

The ceremony will feature a unique display of rainbow-branded public safety vehicles from various agencies throughout Miami-Dade County, including the Miami Beach Police Department. These vehicles will line Lincoln Road, symbolizing the solidarity and support of law enforcement for the LGBTQIA+ community. Participating entities include Bal Harbour, Coral Gables, Golden Beach, and several others, along with major agencies like the FBI and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Earlier in April, Miami Beach hosted thousands at its annual Pride celebration and is known for its symbolic Progress Pride Flag that flies year-round beside the American flag at City Hall. The city also boasts a Pride-themed lifeguard tower, painted in the colors of the traditional Rainbow Flag, located at 12 Street on the beachfront.

Ensuring Safety and Inclusivity

Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones emphasized the city’s commitment to inclusivity, stating, “We want the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcome and safe in Miami Beach. We are an inclusive community that recognizes the many beautiful faces of diversity.” This sentiment is echoed by the community and its leaders who are actively working to ensure that Miami Beach remains a safe and welcoming place for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Lyle Stern, president of the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with the City of Miami Beach for the Pride Month festivities. “Pride Month is a celebration of love and acceptance, and the Lincoln Road BID is committed to continue creating a space that is welcoming to everyone,” Stern said.
