The recent trend in gasoline prices across the United States has shown a decrease. The average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped by 1.9 cents nationally, settling at $3.24, while gas prices in Florida experienced a rollercoaster of fluctuations over the past period.
As of Sunday, Florida’s average gas price was $3.31 per gallon, a minor increase of one cent compared to the previous week. This stability comes after a period of significant volatility, where the state average initially surged by 21 cents per gallon two weeks ago. Following this spike, prices dropped by 5 cents, only to rise again by 8 cents. The fluctuating prices reached a peak mid-week at $3.37 per gallon, marking the highest average for 2024, but then decreased by 5 cents. To put this in perspective, last year’s highest recorded price was $3.85 per gallon.

Experts attributed the recent price escalations to the rising cost of oil, exacerbated by refineries undergoing seasonal maintenance. They also noted that the presence of winter residents and spring breakers in Florida contributes to a strong demand for fuel, likely placing upward pressure on gas prices through the next month.
In Miami-Dade, the average price for a gallon of gas as of Monday morning was $3.34, slightly up from $3.33 a week ago. A survey conducted by GasBuddy of 1,690 stations in Miami revealed an average price of $3.34 per gallon as of Sunday, February 25, with the lowest price recorded at $2.99 and the highest at $4.55 per gallon. This current average in Miami represents a 13.9 cents increase from a month ago and is 2.0 cents lower than the same period last year.
Broward County’s average gas price remained stable at $3.36 a gallon, unchanged from the previous week. According to the analysis, the most expensive gas prices in Florida are found in West Palm Beach, Gainesville, and Naples, while the cheapest prices are located in the panhandle, offering some relief to motorists in those areas.
