Pembroke Pines to host free deed fraud prevention seminar on August 12

Pembroke Pines, Florida – On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, there will be a free community event in Pembroke Pines where people can learn how to protect themselves from a rise in property crime. At 7 p.m., the session will be held in the City of Pembroke Pines Commission Chambers at 601 City Center Way. It will be about preventing deed fraud.

Mayor Angelo Castillo and Broward County Property Appraiser (BCPA) Marty Kiar will host the evening. Together, they want to bring attention to the severe and often expensive crime of deed fraud, which is when a property deed or title is illegally transferred without the owner’s knowledge or agreement. This kind of scam can put homeowners in danger of losing their homes, having to go to court, or having to deal with fake sales and mortgages that are put on their homes.

During the session, locals will hear directly from local officials and experts about how these schemes usually work, what to look out for, and the best ways to protect property ownership records. Attendees will also be able to ask questions and talk about their concerns in person.

BCPA officials will be there to help people in person, such as by signing them up for the free Owner Alert System. This tool lets property owners know anytime a document is recorded under their name. This way, they may act promptly if someone makes modifications without their permission.

Staff will also help clients find tax breaks that they may be able to use to save money, making sure that homeowners get the most out of the benefits they may get.

City leaders encourage all residents, whether they’ve been there for a long time or just bought a house, to come and learn about this important topic. Knowing how to defend property rights is important for both your peace of mind and your financial security.
