Fort Lauderdale invites public to weigh in on mixed-use zoning updates on August 28 meeting

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale’s Development Services Department is preparing to hold a public community meeting later this month to discuss proposed updates to Fort Lauderdale’s mixed-use zoning standards.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Development Services Department, located at 700 NW 19th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. Residents, property owners, and community stakeholders are invited to take part in the discussion.

These proposed amendments are the result of feedback collected during a months-long public outreach process that took place between September 2024 and January 2025. City officials say the changes are intended to improve how new development interacts with surrounding neighborhoods, while balancing growth and livability.

Key revisions under consideration include new requirements for neighborhood transitions, limits on maximum streetwall length, and guidelines for building podium stepbacks. The amendments would also set restrictions on floorplate sizes to ensure larger buildings remain in proportion with their surroundings.

City representatives note that these proposals reflect concerns raised by community members during earlier outreach sessions, with an emphasis on creating standards that both support urban design goals and address the needs of residents.
