Port Everglades ends fiscal year with record highs in cargo, cruises, and energy distribution

Broward County, Florida – Port Everglades is ending Fiscal Year 2025 on a high note, with new records in every major area it services. Early numbers reveal that the port has set new records in cruise travel, cargo activity, and energy distribution all at the same time. This marks a milestone unmatched in its recent history. The success shows how the port is becoming more important as one of the most flexible and competitive seaports in the country.

The port handled 1,167,552 TEUs, which is the most it has ever handled. The rise is due to the growing strength of commercial lines that link South Florida to Latin America, the Caribbean, and other markets across the world. Container shipments reached their greatest level ever because of increased capacity and strong demand from foreign partners.

The energy sector went in a similar direction. Port Everglades stayed Florida’s top oil port, shipping 131,855,261 barrels of fuel products throughout the course of the year. The port’s continual increase in petroleum distribution shows how important it is to the daily operations and economic stability of the region. It serves as a supply lifeline for 12 counties and five international airports.

There were also big increases in cruise tourism. Port Everglades saw around 4.8 million passengers last year, which is a 16 percent increase from the year before and a new record. The rise makes the port the third-busiest cruise homeport in the world, which is a good thing for its global reputation. Officials think that the growing trend will continue into Fiscal Year 2026, with 40 cruise ships and nine cruise lines already booked for the upcoming season.

Port CEO and Director Joseph Morris said that the combined successes were a clear sign of momentum, thanks to strong partnerships and the flexibility of the port’s business lines to change.

“The trifecta of record-breaking accomplishments reflects the strength of our partnerships and the resilience of our business lines,” said Port Everglades CEO and Port Director Joseph Morris. “The port’s diversified portfolio positions us to adapt, compete and lead as global and regional markets evolve.”

As Port Everglades gets ready for more than $3 billion in long-term enhancements laid out in its Master/Vision Plan, this year is already breaking records. These investments are meant to make things work better, increase capacity, and make things more sustainable. The port’s growth strengthens its position as a significant economic generator and important hub for trade and tourism in Broward County and the rest of South Florida.
