LAST CALL: Ride for Miles brings Tamarac together on Saturday, April 18 to honor victims and stand beside survivors of crime

Tamarac, Florida – On Saturday, April 18, the Tamarac Sports Complex will become more than just a gathering place for cyclists.

It will serve as a space for remembrance, support, and public solidarity as residents come together for the K.I.N.D. Initiative: Ride for Miles, an event tied to National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which is observed from April 19 through April 25, 2026.

On Saturday, April 18, the Tamarac Sports Complex will become more than just a gathering place for cyclists.

Hosted by Commissioner Krystal Patterson, the ride is built around a message that reaches beyond the course itself. This year’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week theme, “Listen. Act. Advocate.,” shapes the purpose of the event and underscores why it matters.

The focus is not only on showing up, but on standing beside victims, uplifting survivors, and drawing attention to the lasting effect crime can have on families and entire communities.

Set for the Tamarac Sports Complex at 9901 NW 77th St., the event invites people to ride with intention and with someone in mind. Participants are being encouraged to register in advance and include the name of a person they are riding in honor of.

Those names will be recognized during the event, turning the ride into something deeply personal as well as public. In that simple act, the morning becomes a tribute, giving space to memory while also sending a message of care and support.

The cause behind the event is significant. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, nearly 22 million Americans are affected by crime each year.

That figure reflects the scale of a reality that is often discussed in statistics, but lived through in silence by individuals, loved ones, and neighbors. Ride for Miles aims to bring that reality into the open with compassion and community at the center.

Registration is required for those planning to participate, and sign-ups are available at www.krystalpatterson.com/events.

As National Crime Victims’ Rights Week begins, the April 18 ride offers Tamarac residents a chance to do more than observe. It gives them an opportunity to show up, ride together, and help turn awareness into visible support.
