Old paint pool chemicals and broken printers can all head to Tamarac’s free disposal event on May 2
Tamarac, Florida – For anyone with old paint cans in the garage, a broken printer collecting dust, or used pool chemicals sitting on a shelf, Saturday, May 2, offers a chance to clear that clutter the right way, and without paying a fee.
The City of Tamarac will open the east gate of the Tamarac Public Services building at 6011 Nob Hill Rd. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a free household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off event, giving residents a safe way to part with materials that should not be tossed out with everyday garbage.
The event is part of a broader regional effort involving Tamarac and several neighboring cities, including Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Lauderdale Lakes, and Pompano Beach.

Through that partnership, Tamarac residents can use these scheduled collection events as a responsible outlet for disposing of household hazardous waste and outdated electronic items that might otherwise end up in the wrong place.
Residents can bring a wide range of accepted items, including televisions, computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, fax machines, scanners, modems, desktop copiers, cell phones, automotive batteries, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint, motor oil, pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, and mercury thermometers.
The goal is simple: keep potentially harmful materials out of landfills and make disposal easier for households that want to get rid of them safely.
Not everything will be accepted.
The city says the drop-off will not take biohazard or medical waste, explosives, tires, business-generated waste, alkaline batteries such as AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V, office furniture, stereos, speakers, musical instruments, DVD players, VCRs, appliances, microwave ovens, electronic hand tools, or general trash and debris.
Anyone planning to attend should be ready to show proof of residency, either with a driver’s license or a utility bill.
Organizers also note that all remote household hazardous waste and e-waste events are held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., though dates and locations can change without notice. Residents are encouraged to confirm details before heading out.
