Fort Lauderdale launches Rio Vista resurfacing project to refresh a key stretch of Ponce de Leon Drive

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Residents in Rio Vista will soon see a short but important road improvement effort move through one of the neighborhood’s key corridors.

The City of Fort Lauderdale teams up with M & M Asphalt Maintenance Inc. to resurface Ponce de Leon Drive between SE 12th Way and SE 7th Street.

The project is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 24, 2026, and wrap up by Wednesday, April 29, 2026, with crews working each day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The work is expected to start at SE 12th Way and progress north toward SE 7th Street, giving residents a clearer sense of how construction will advance block by block. While the timetable is in place, city officials noted that weather or other unexpected issues could still affect the schedule.

At the heart of the project is a straightforward goal: improve the roadway surface and refresh the markings that guide daily traffic.

Crews will mill and resurface the asphalt, then apply new pavement markings along the corridor. Though the work is limited in scope and duration, it is aimed at giving this stretch of Ponce de Leon Drive a smoother and more durable finish.

Drivers and nearby residents should expect temporary disruptions during construction hours. Neighbors are being asked not to park along Ponce de Leon Drive within the work zone while crews are active.

During the project, one lane in each direction will be closed within the limits of the job, and traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles when needed.

The city said access to driveways will remain available except when work is happening directly across from a driveway. In those cases, crews will try to coordinate with neighbors before asphalt operations begin.

Officials are also urging motorists to watch for posted signs and move carefully through the area.
