Broward Sheriff’s Office brings back Tamarac Shred-a-thon to fight identity theft and drug misuse
Broward County, Florida – Spring cleaning season in Tamarac will come with a practical community benefit this year, as the Broward Sheriff’s Office prepares to bring back its Shred-a-thon and Operation Medicine Cabinet event on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kings Point, 7620 Nob Hill Road, the event is designed to help residents safely clear out two common household risks: sensitive paperwork that could expose them to identity theft and unused or expired prescription medications that should not remain in cabinets or drawers.

The service is free to the community!
Residents are invited to bring up to two boxes of shredable documents per vehicle, with each box limited to 16 inches long, 12 inches wide and 12 inches high.
At the same location, people can also turn in unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications for safe disposal. Officials noted that needles and sharps will not be accepted.
The event combines convenience with prevention.
One part focuses on protecting personal information by destroying old financial records, bills and other sensitive papers. The other aims to reduce the risk of prescription drug misuse by giving the public a safe way to remove medications they no longer need.
Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony is promoting the effort as a direct investment in public safety.
“We’re proud to offer these free services to protect the community,” he said.
There is also a small added incentive for those participating in the medication disposal portion of the event.
Organizers said residents who turn in prescription medication will receive a $5 gift card while supplies last. The gift cards will only be given to those dropping off prescription medications.
The return of the event offers a timely reminder that spring cleaning can go beyond closets and garages.
It can also mean clearing out the paperwork and medicine bottles that often sit untouched for months, creating unnecessary risks at home.
