Two siblings from Florida, identified as Erin Foley and Ted Albin, have been arrested and charged for their involvement in a Medicare fraud scheme. This case revolves around fraudulent claims for durable medical equipment, amounting to millions of dollars.
Erin Foley and Ted Albin operated a Medicare billing company, Grapevine Professional Services. According to a news release from the Justice Department on December 19, their company was involved in billing more than $25 million in fraudulent claims. As a result, they received over $9 million from Medicare and private insurers.
The fraudulent activities took place from at least 2018 to 2021. During this period, the individuals in question billed for medical equipment that was allegedly sold and purchased unlawfully by Grapevine customers, who were registered as supply companies. The Justice Department states that Ms. Foley and Mr. Albin used this unlawfully acquired equipment to file the fraudulent claims.
The charges against Ms. Foley and Mr. Albin also include their involvement in a kickback scheme where they reportedly introduced customers, who were interested in unlawfully purchasing this equipment, to their co-conspirators.
The charges pressed against them are serious and include wire fraud, healthcare fraud, conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, and conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute.
