As the 2024 presidential election is nearing, we are more than likely to witness another tumultuous election season and a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who are expected to be declared the major party nominees at their parties’ conventions this summer. Members of both the Republican Party and Democratic Party are expressing confidence their candidates will be elected as presidents in November, but only time will show who will manage to secure victory. The latest to express confidence in their presumptive nominee while at the same time “campaigning” against their opponent is Florida Democrat Maxwell Frost.

The Importance of Minority Support
Representative Maxwell Frost underscored the vital role that communities of color will play in ensuring President Joe Biden’s reelection in the upcoming November elections, while also issuing a warning about the dire consequences marginalized communities might face should former President Donald Trump were to be reelected.
Biden’s Support from Minority Communities
During an interview with Katie Phang on MSNBC, Frost highlighted the significance of the recent support Biden has received. He pointed out that three organizations focused on minority interests—the Latino Victory Fund, AAPI Victory Fund, and The Collective PAC—have all endorsed Biden for a second term. According to Frost, these groups have not only pledged their support for Biden but have also committed a substantial sum of $30 million to prevent Trump from winning another term and to help secure Biden’s reelection. “Here’s the thing, you know, it’s one thing to receive an endorsement from an organization. It’s another thing to receive an endorsement from three leading organizations that are saying ‘not only will we endorse the president, but we’re going to put $30 million behind ensuring that we deny Donald Trump a second term and that we reelect President Joe Biden,” Frost said.

The significant financial backing and endorsements from these major political action committees reflect a strategic effort to mobilize minority voters. In the 2020 election, the support from these communities was key to Biden’s victory over Trump, and similar mobilization efforts are deemed essential for the upcoming electoral battle, which is anticipated to be closely contested.
Frost emphasized the critical nature of these endorsements and financial contributions. He believes they underscore the stakes of the upcoming election, particularly for the AAPI, Black, Latino communities, and other people of color. These groups, he argued, face significant risks if Trump were to return to the presidency saying they “won’t survive another Donald Trump term”—a statement he insists is far from an exaggeration but rather a reflection of the genuine stakes involved.
Trump’s Perspective on Black Community Support
However, Frost’s claims about the support Biden will receive from communities of color are different from the views Donald Trump has regarding the support of Black communities. During an event at the Black Conservative Federation Honors Gala held last month in Columbia, South Carolina made comments that became the topic of discussion. Trump said he was told that with each indictment, the support within the Black community seemed to grow. “A lot of people said that that’s why the Black people like me because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against. And they actually viewed me as—I’m being discriminated against. It’s been pretty amazing,” Trump said.

Addressing the Age Debate
At 27 years old, Frost made history as the first Generation Z member to be elected to Congress, winning his race in Orlando in 2022. Meanwhile, Biden, at 81 years old, has faced criticism over his age and his ability to lead. In response, the Biden campaign released an advertisement that presents his age as a strength, with Biden acknowledging his age while also asserting his capability to effectively serve the American public. The president said in the advertisement that he is “not a young guy. That’s no secret.” “I know how to get things done for the American people.”
Frost supports Biden’s approach to addressing concerns about his age, highlighting the desire among young voters for genuine and forthright candidates. He argues that, although some voters may have concerns about Biden’s age, it shouldn’t be their foremost worry.

According to Frost, when voters are making their decisions in the voting booth, they’re likely to prioritize issues such as the protection of abortion rights and the fight against gun violence over the age of the candidates.
