New Port Richey, Florida – Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a directive for flags to be lowered to half-staff across several locations in Florida to honor the memory of Pasco County Commissioner Gary Bradford, who passed away on April 21, 2024, after battling leukemia.
A Dedicated Public Servant
Gary Bradford, who was 65 at the time of his death, had a significant impact on his community through his dedicated service and leadership. Elected in 2022 to represent District 4 of Pasco County, Bradford continued to serve his constituents with great determination, even while undergoing treatment for cancer.
His commitment to public service was not limited to his time as a commissioner. Before entering local government, Bradford had a long and distinguished career with the Tampa Police Department, serving the State of Florida for over 25 years. Following his police service, he spent 15 years working with the Florida Police Benevolent Association, advocating for law enforcement professionals.

Bradford’s legacy includes his relentless advocacy for public safety and crime prevention, which made a lasting impact on the community he served. He is survived by his wife Debbie, his son Daniel, and his daughters Melissa and Jessica.
Mark of Respect
In recognition of Commissioner Bradford’s service and contributions, Governor DeSantis has directed that the United States and the State of Florida flags be flown at half-staff at the Pasco County Courthouse, the City Hall of New Port Richey, and the State Capitol in Tallahassee. This mark of respect will be observed from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
