Miami, Florida – Keith Bernard Miller, a 54-year-old Miami resident with a long criminal history, was sentenced last week to 240 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. This sentence was handed down after Miller was convicted in a series of attempted and successful robberies while he was already on supervised release for a prior offense. The sentencing occurred after a three-day federal jury trial and marks a significant chapter in Miller’s extensive criminal record.
A Series of Failed and Successful Heists
Miller’s latest criminal activities began on September 29, 2023, when he targeted two credit unions in Miramar. Despite his efforts, he failed to rob these institutions. Undeterred, Miller then drove to a credit union in Boca Raton on the same day. There, he successfully stole over $1,600 after presenting a demand note to the staff.
His crime spree continued on October 10, 2023, when he drove to a bank in Davie and once again used a demand note to intimidate a teller. The teller, fearing for her life, handed over more than $1,300.
Later that same day, law enforcement officers were able to locate Miller’s getaway vehicle. Upon his arrest, officers discovered draft demand notes and the clothing Miller had worn during the robberies, solidifying the case against him.

Past Convictions and Current Sentence
Before these incidents, Miller had been sentenced in 2020 to 65 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to three counts of credit union robbery. His criminal record extends even further into the past, including multiple convictions for robberies, aggravated stalking with a firearm, burglary with assault and battery, and felony eluding, among other offenses.
Legal Proceedings and Investigations
The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida and Jeffrey B. Veltri, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Miami Field Office. U.S. District Judge Roy K. Altman presided over the sentencing.
The investigation leading to Miller’s latest conviction was a collaborative effort involving the FBI Miami with assistance from the Miramar Police Department, Boca Police Department, and Miami-Dade Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ajay J. Alexander and M. Catherine Koontz prosecuted the case.
