Most Broward County services paused for Juneteenth, but essential operations remain available

Broward County, Florida – On Thursday, June 19, county government offices in Broward will be closed so that staff and citizens can celebrate Juneteenth. A lot of public agencies and departments will be closed, but some important ones and a lot of digital services will still be available for anybody who need help or information throughout the observance.
Residents who depend on the county’s 311 Call Center or the Homeless Helpline should note that both will be closed for the day. But you can still get help from the Homeless Helpline after hours by calling 954-563-4357 between 10 PM and 2 AM. This means that everyone can get help at night.
On June 19, all branches of the Broward County Library system will likewise stop doing business in person. The NSU-Alvin Sherman Library, on the other hand, will keep its regular extended hours. Library users can still use digital resources including online catalogs, streaming media, and downloadable books and magazines 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Most of Broward’s parks and natural areas will be open for holiday visitors, however Deerfield Island Park, Markham Target Range, and certain administrative buildings will be closed for the day. The normal holiday entrance price of $3 per vehicle for parties of up to eight will still be in place in regional parks, along with holiday rates for structures and shelters.
Broward County Transit will run on its typical weekday schedule for anyone who use it. Customer support experts will be at the Main Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Lauderhill Transit Center from 6 AM to 8 PM to help individuals plan their trips and answer questions. But the Northeast Transit Center and the offices will be closed. You may still get information and plan your travel online, and people who need more help can call for help.

At Port Everglades, the administrative offices will not be open, but tenants will still be able to get into the port facility during regular hours. Marine operations and related services will continue around the clock, thus shipping and freight activities will be going without a stop for the holiday.
Travelers using Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport or North Perry Airport will not see any changes to how the terminals or airfields work. The administrative offices at both airports are closed for Juneteenth, but you can call them anytime to get updates and ask questions.
Animal lovers should know that Broward County Animal Care won’t be open for regular business during the holiday. You should only call 911 in an emergency, like an animal attack, an injury, or a scenario that needs the police. You can wait until normal business hours return for non-emergencies. You can still find information about lost pets or adoption on the county website and through recorded hotlines.
The administrative offices of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services will likewise be closed, but they will still be able to help families and professionals all day and night. People can contact 954-357-5200 or visit the department’s website for urgent problems.
Addiction treatment and crisis intervention services remain operational on an emergency basis. The Broward Addiction Recovery Center will remain open 24 hours a day for medical detoxification, even though its administrative and outpatient offices are closed. Walk-ins may be accepted for assessments if time allows. The Nancy J. Cotterman Center will also help victims in an emergency and during a crisis, while other administrative activity will be put on hold for the day.
Residents of the Broward Municipal Services District will still have access to garbage, bulk, and recycling services as usual. However, those in other communities should check with their own service providers to be sure they know about holiday plans. Lastly, the Broward County Landfill will be closed on June 19 and will open again the next day at its regular hours.
