West Palm Beach, Florida – Palm Beach County is observing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day today, January 15th, leading to widespread closures across the area. All public schools in Palm Beach County, along with various private schools including American Heritage, Pinecrest, St. Andrews, and North Broward Prep, will not be open. Additionally, public schools in neighboring Broward and Miami-Dade counties are following suit and will remain closed as well.
Beyond the educational institutions, government offices in Palm Beach County and its cities—Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach—are also taking the day off. Despite these widespread closures, the handling of waste will mostly continue as usual. Palm Beach County will maintain its regular trash collection schedule. However, there’s an exception in Boca Raton. As per the city’s statement, “Monday service will shift to Tuesday, and Tuesday service will shift to Wednesday.” This means residents should prepare for a slight delay in their trash collection schedule.
The City of Boca Raton has also announced that while its libraries will be closed, the tennis center is an exception and will be open to the public. In Palm Beach County, though all official government offices are closed in observance of the holiday, residents can still access public amenities like libraries, parks, and sporting facilities, which are expected to remain open.
