Tallahassee, Florida – January, recognized as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, brings renewed commitment from the United States Attorney’s Office to combat human trafficking. United States Attorney Jason R. Coody has emphasized the office’s dedication to prosecuting traffickers, protecting victims, supporting survivors, and curbing the spread of these heinous crimes.

A Firm Stance Against Trafficking

The U.S. Attorney’s Office underlines that ensuring justice for human trafficking victims and safeguarding vulnerable individuals are among its top priorities. Human trafficking, a severe violation of human rights, subjects victims to extreme physical and emotional trauma. Coody, in his statement, described human trafficking as an “abomination” and vowed to continue vigorous prosecution efforts against those responsible for such reprehensible acts.

“Human trafficking is an abomination,” Coody stated. “With no regard for human dignity, traffickers inflict indescribable physical harm to their victims and often leave emotional scars that cannot be healed. With our law enforcement partners, our office remains committed to aggressively prosecuting those who must be held accountable for their despicable crimes.”

Reporting and Education Initiatives

To combat human trafficking effectively, public awareness and community involvement are crucial. The U.S. Attorney’s Office encourages anyone with information about potential human trafficking cases or individuals at risk to contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733.

Additionally, the office has released a Public Service Announcement aimed at enhancing community awareness. This initiative focuses on educating the public on identifying potential trafficking situations and reporting suspected human trafficking activities. Through these efforts, the U.S. Attorney’s Office hopes to foster a more informed and vigilant community capable of recognizing and responding to the signs of human trafficking.

The commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to addressing human trafficking reflects a broader national effort to eradicate this global issue. By prioritizing the prosecution of traffickers and the protection of victims, along with community education, the office aims to create a safer and more just society for all.
