Naples, Florida – A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer, William Joseph Timothy, has admitted to stealing significant sums of money from international travelers at Naples Airport. His actions have led to a guilty plea and the potential for a decade-long prison sentence.
Systematic Theft During Routine Checks
Between mid-2023 and early-2024, Timothy exploited his role and took approximately $18,700 in cash from unsuspecting airline passengers. This misconduct occurred over 17 distinct incidents, which were eventually exposed by diligent investigations conducted by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility. The evidence revealed that Timothy, while conducting border enforcement examinations and currency verifications as part of his official duties, discreetly appropriated cash from the passengers.
