Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Broward County residents who had past arrests without a conviction now have chance to have their records cleared. Offering a fresh start to many, the local State Attorney’s Office is holding a special workshop to assist people with sealing or expunging their arrest records.
State Attorney Harold F. Pryor scheduled the event for Thursday, September 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. It will take place in Fort Lauderdale’s Joseph C. Carter Park Gymnasium, at 1450 West Sunrise Blvd. This program is a component of a larger endeavor to help individuals who have been arrested but not found guilty to have such records taken off public display.
Those eligible for expungement must have cases inside Broward County that did not lead to a conviction. This covers situations in which adjudication was withheld, perhaps fitting for sealing. The procedure seeks to remove obstacles such as housing or work search issues resulting from a past arrest record.
The workshop will feature assistance from volunteers and partners including the Broward County Clerk of Courts, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Parks & Recreation Department. These officials and volunteers will walk participants through the procedure, respond to inquiries, and supply required documentation.
Both adults and children can participate; walk-ins are welcomed. Participants in the workshop must present a current valid ID. For further specific information, the State Attorney’s Office has also sent fliers in English, Spanish, and Creole available on the event website.
