Tamarac families invited to join winning culture through Florida Panthers youth program

Tamarac, Florida – The Florida Panthers, who just won two championships in a row, are working with the City of Tamarac to give young athletes in the area an outstanding opportunity. The Panthers will hold their Learn to Play Ball Hockey clinic this September. This program is meant to teach kids the basics of the sport in a fun, cheap, and easy-to-reach way.
The Tamarac version of the event will take place on three Saturdays in a row—September 6, 13, and 20—from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Tamarac Multipurpose Center, which is at 7531 N. University Drive. The $50 registration fee covers three weeks of age-appropriate lessons, a hockey stick, and a ball to keep. Kids ages 5 to 14 can sign up. There isn’t a lot of space, so families should sign up online at floridapanthers.com/ballhockey to get a spot.
The program is aimed at people who have never played organized ball or ice hockey before and is based on USA Hockey’s “Gold Standard” curriculum to make sure the training is both fun and useful. USA Hockey-certified instructors will lead the three sessions and teach vital skills like stickhandling, passing, and shooting. They will also talk about critical safety rules.
The weekly breakdown makes it easy to see how things are moving along. The first session is focused on the foundations of hockey and how to handle your stick. It teaches new players how to hold their sticks, where to put their hands, and how to move. The second week teaches passing with both the forehand and backhand, as well as the basics of shooting, such as stance, hand placement, and follow-through. The last week is a chance to review what you’ve learned and then have a fun scrimmage where you can use your new skills.

The Panthers’ Learn to Play Ball Hockey program is more than just a bunch of sessions. It’s a means to get involved in the larger hockey community. The goal of the program is to inspire the next generation of players and lifelong fans by getting rid of the barrier of expensive equipment and offering professional lessons. As the Panthers keep working to help young people, programs like this one give kids who might not otherwise get the chance to play hockey a chance to do so.
Along with Tamarac, there are additional classes in Coconut Creek. They follow the same three-week pattern, but the times and places are different. You can get your money back up to 24 hours before the first practice. If the weather causes a cancellation, it will be rescheduled if possible, or you will get a partial refund if that is not possible.
