Broward County libraries host monthlong events for Hispanic Heritage Month celebration

Tarmac, Florida – Hispanic Heritage Month is here, and there are a lot of events going on that celebrate the traditions, contributions, and creativity of Hispanic and Latino communities. The celebration, which takes place across the country from September 15 to October 15, is a chance to honor the deep cultural roots and lasting effects these communities have had on the United States. The celebrations are a reminder of how rich and varied Hispanic culture is, with music, movies, crafts, and food.
Broward County libraries are among of the local places that will have fun things going on all month long. The goal of each event is to not only entertain but also teach and inspire people about different parts of Hispanic culture.
The first event on the agenda is Upcycled Treasures: Mexican Flower Earrings, which will take place on Saturday, September 20, at the South Regional/Broward College Library. Participants will learn how to make beautiful jewelry out of everyday things, which is in line with the tradition of employing creativity to give new life to simple things.
The Deerfield Beach Percy White Branch will show La Bamba from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. later that day. The biopic is about Ritchie Valens, a teenage rock and roll singer whose promising career was cut short in an aircraft disaster in 1959 that also killed Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. The movie not only shows Valens’ musical journey, but it also talks about how Hispanic performers have affected American music as a whole.
The Justin Miranda Jazz Ensemble will provide music enthusiasts another chance to interact with Hispanic culture. The Southwest Regional Library’s auditorium will host their event, Colorful Jazz, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. The show includes new takes on jazz standards and original songs that mix traditional jazz with sounds that come from the rich history of Hispanic communities.

David Pedraza, a well-known violist, will also perform works by Hispanic musicians in the North Regional/Broward College Library at the same time. Pedraza’s concert gives people an opportunity to enjoy the depth and beauty of classical music that has been influenced by Hispanic art and culture.
Hispanic Heritage Month is more than just a bunch of planned events. It’s a time to think about the past, appreciate culture, and make the community stronger. Broward County’s program includes visual arts, music, and film, so everyone may respect the legacy of Hispanic and Latino voices that continue to define the culture of the country.
Residents can find out more about the events and how to sign up by visiting the Broward County Library’s website.
