Tamarac hosts free drop-off day on December 6 for unwanted electronics and hazardous household items
Tamarac, Florida – Residents of Tamarac will be able to get rid of unwanted gadgets and dangerous household items for free on Saturday, December 6. The drop-off site will be at the east gate of the Tamarac Public Services building at 6011 Nob Hill Road. Staff will be there to accept items from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Before unloading, you will need to show proof of residency, like a driver’s license or a utility bill.
Tamarac is working with Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Lauderdale Lakes, and Pompano Beach to put on the event. These communities work together all year to conduct collection days when people can safely get rid of outdated electronics and home hazardous waste. The idea is to make it easier to throw away things safely and lower the chance that dangerous materials will end up in landfills or the general waste stream.
A lot of things that are typical in houses and garages will be accepted. People can bring in tiny electronic devices including printers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, fax machines, TVs, and other things, as well as rechargeable batteries, car batteries, cell phones, and fluorescent bulbs. You can also bring hazardous products like old paint, motor oil, pool chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and mercury thermometers to the site to be handled and recycled properly.

However, not all items fall under the accepted list. Items such as medical waste, explosives, tires, and any material generated as part of a business will not be received. You shouldn’t give away microwaves, stereos, speakers, DVD players, VCRs, electric hand tools, or other household items. Alkaline batteries, like the usual sizes AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt, are also not allowed.
The City of Tamarac wants people to go through their storage rooms, garages, and home offices ahead of time to find things they can bring to the event. When you throw away chemicals and electronics the right way, you help protect the environment, make your house safer, and keep dangerous substances out of water systems and public waste facilities.
