Horrifying abuse of power: Florida cop that turned predator and abused a minor that he met while on duty gets hefty prison sentence

Florida – A former Florida police officer has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison after a jury found he received child se*ual abuse material involving a minor he met while on duty.

U.S. District Judge Julie S. Sneed imposed the sentence on Dariel Javier Quiles-Davila, 27, following his conviction in federal court earlier this year. A federal jury returned a guilty verdict on August 22, 2025, after hearing evidence detailing how the former officer abused his position of trust to exploit a child.

According to the Department of Justice, court records and testimony presented during the trial showed that the offenses began in October 2023, when Quiles-Davila was employed by the Kissimmee Police Department. While working in his official capacity, he encountered a minor victim. After learning the child’s contact information, prosecutors said Quiles-Davila initiated private communication using his personal cellphone and social media accounts.

The evidence showed that the contact escalated beyond inappropriate messaging. Quiles-Davila sent money to the minor and repeatedly solicited se*ually explicit images and videos. Prosecutors stated that he ultimately received the material, which formed the basis of the federal charges against him. The conduct occurred outside official police channels and continued over a period of time, according to the case record.

Following the investigation, Quiles-Davila was removed from his position with the police department. The case proceeded to trial, where jurors heard testimony and reviewed digital evidence documenting the communications and transfers. After deliberations, the jury found him guilty of receiving child se*ual abuse material, leading to the sentencing phase before Judge Sneed.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the local Sheriff’s Office, and the local Police Department. Federal prosecutors Michael Sartoian and Chauncey A. Bratt handled the case on behalf of the United States Attorney’s Office.

Federal authorities noted that the case was brought under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to address crimes involving the se*ual exploitation and abuse of children. The program coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to identify victims, pursue offenders, and prevent further harm.

Officials involved in the prosecution emphasized that the sentence reflects the seriousness of exploiting a minor and the added gravity when such conduct involves a law enforcement officer. The seven-year prison term is intended to hold the defendant accountable and reinforce that those entrusted with public safety will face significant consequences if they violate that trust.
