Trump puts most activities on hold until the end of August

Florida – Announcing to be avoiding the presidential rally circuit until the Democratic National Convention scheduled for August 22, former President Donald Trump has announced a notable halt in his campaign activity. This move stands in sharp contrast to the strong campaign schedule he maintained during the 2016 election season, which most famously included 27 energetic rallies across 15 states.

Trump’s aggressive campaign approach was attributed with increasing his awareness and momentum in August 2016, therefore preparing him for the presidential contest. On the other hand, the former president has been much more reserved this year, having only one event thus far this month. Trump answered questions about his quiet campaign presence during a press conference at his Palm Beach residence, noting that his notable lead in surveys gives him the freedom to temporarily cut his campaign trail trips. He boldly asserted that following the Democrats’ convention, his campaign efforts will pick up great momentum.

While Trump stays at his Mar-a-Lago club, concentrating on media events including phone interviews and podcasts, his Democratic opponents, led by Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have been actively campaigning in important swing states. With rallies in states including Wisconsin, Michigan, and forthcoming events in Arizona and Nevada, the Democratic team has kept a tight calendar.

Trump’s brief withdrawal from rallies does not indicate a total stop in his campaigning activities. Through selective events and fundraisers, he keeps interacting with fans and possible funders. He is supposed to go to a rally in Montana, for example, which will also be a fundraising event for GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, trying to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Tester in the next November elections. After that, Trump intends to visit Aspen, Colorado, for another fundraiser before going back to Florida.

Opponents of Trump’s deliberate decision to restrict public appearances during this crucial pre-election period have said that he is passing on significant opportunities to interact with people. Harris campaign, meanwhile, puts the focus on active involvement with voters in battleground states and framing their efforts as a direct counterpoint to Trump’s current strategy.

With less than three months until voters cast their ballots, the political scene remains quite competitive as the election approaches and latest polls show a close battle. Trump’s decision to stop his campaign rallies deviates from both his past campaigns and conventional campaign tactics, therefore highlighting a perhaps deliberate risk as he seeks to guarantee a victory in the forthcoming presidential contest.
