Broward County Animal Care urgently seeks community support to foster pets during hurricane season

Broward County, Florida – Broward County Animal Care is desperately looking for community help to foster shelter pets among progressively bad weather especially during the hurricane season. This initiative seeks to give dogs and cats a temporary, loving refuge from the strains of the shelter environment during bad weather.

Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care, emphasized the critical need for foster volunteers.

“We need our community’s help more than ever,” said Brightwell in a news release. “Fostering a pet even for a few days can make all the difference. You’re providing safety and comfort and saving a life in the process. We provide all necessary resources, including food, supplies, and support. All you need is a little space and a lot of heart.”

The county’s fostering program aims to alleviate the present overcrowding in shelters, which is exacerbated during the hurricane season when the count of displaced and lost pets usually increases. Support of community members will enable the shelter to better control its capacity, therefore ensuring that more animals can be housed and cared for during times of crisis.

Fostering is within everyone’s reach regardless of past pet ownership experience. Being committed to guiding new fosters through the process, Broward County Animal Care makes the experience rewarding for the pet as well as the caretaker. Helping the shelter not only provides for an animal in need but also gives them a far better opportunity at a better life following adoption.
