Broward Sheriff’s Office launches free summer safety program for teens across the county

Broward County, Florida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is starting a free summer program to teach youngsters important safety skills that could save lives. This July, the Teen Safety Symposium will be held at several places in Broward County for students ages 13 to 17. The full-day event is more than just a learning opportunity; it’s also a chance for kids to learn about safety issues in the real world while getting service hours.

The people in charge have developed a schedule full of interactive workshops that deal with important problems that kids deal with today. Teen driving safety, the risks of using social media in the wrong way, financial sextortion, and drug awareness are some of the topics. Participants will learn in a classroom setting as well as via hands-on training in CPR and bleeding control, which are useful skills to have in an emergency.

Lunch will be served on-site at each symposium, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can choose from five different days and locations, starting on July 8 at the Pat Larkins Community Center in Pompano Beach. The Memorial Regional Hospital Conference Center in Hollywood (July 10), Riverside Church in North Lauderdale (July 15), and Bonaventure Town Center Club in Weston (July 17) are also places where the event will take place.

Broward County officials are emphasizing the importance of timely registration because there are only a handful of seats available and they are expected to fill up rapidly. To get credit, students must bring their service hour forms with them. Also, if someone registers for more than one date, their registration will be revoked to make room for more people.
