Miami, Florida – Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia has announced an extension for property owners to apply for tax benefits such as the Homestead Exemption or Portability even after the original deadline of Friday, March 1, 2024. To accommodate late filings, property owners are now required to complete an “Extenuating Circumstance Form,” which asks them to explain why they missed the deadline.

This extension provides a crucial opportunity for those who haven’t yet applied for their property tax benefits. Applications for these benefits, along with the necessary Extenuating Circumstance Form, are accessible online. Property owners have the option to apply directly through the website at www.miamidade.gov/PA or arrange an in-person appointment to visit the property appraiser’s offices.

“Florida offers many property tax benefits for property owners that may provide long-term tax savings. Please visit us at one of our locations or apply online by visiting our website at www.miamidade.gov/PA. My office will accept all late applications for all property tax benefits,” Property Appraiser Garcia encourages property owners.
