Fort Lauderdale ensures sanitation services stay efficient during festive season with proper schedule

Share

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale has announced its holiday schedule for city administrative offices and sanitation services, affecting local residents’ plans for waste disposal during the festive season.

Observing Christmas Day, city offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024; subsequently, offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in observance of New Year’s Day. Residents should be aware that these closures could have an impact on usually available services during regular business hours.

Regarding sanitation, major changes have been done to the collecting plans throughout the holidays. There won’t be curbside recycling, yard waste, or garbage collecting on Christmas Day. Additionally, there will be no make-up days for garbage collecting, which could have an impact on people who usually get their waste picked up on Wednesdays.

To offset the disturbance, the city has set aside curbside recycling and yard debris for collection earlier, on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Additionally, bulk trash collections, which are often larger and more irregular items, have been rescheduled to Monday, December 30, 2024. This should provide neighbors lots of time to clean out trash connected to holidays before the New Year.

On New Year’s Day, Fort Lauderdale residents can not expect any disruptions to their sanitation services; collections are set per schedule.

The city has also indicated ideas on how holiday trees should be disposed of following holidays. Residents are urged to put their live Christmas trees curbside on their designated yard waste days starting on January 1, 2025 and running through January 20, 2025. Before disposal, all decorations—including lights, ornaments, tinsel—must be taken down from the trees. Ensuring their environmentally beneficial processing, the gathered trees will be transported to a yard waste recycling facility.
