In patriotic attempt, three conservative Senators want to protect the integrity of the American flag

Florida – Senator Rick Scott from Florida, Ted Cruz from Texas, and Thom Tillis from North Carolina have presented a new legislative proposal called the “Make American Flags in America Act” in what appears to be a patriotic attempt to protect the integrity of the American flag. Aiming to guarantee that all American flags bought by federal agencies and sponsored by U.S. public money are made totally inside the United States, this law addresses concerns about foreign-made flags, especially those coming from China.
The law comes from problems found with the current All-American Flag Act passed in 2024, which required that any U.S. flag bought by federal agencies be made from materials sourced and produced in the United States. Despite this, Chinese manufacturers have continued to find ways to avoid these rules by exploiting loopholes that let them sell flags falsely marked “Made in America” on various online platforms.
Senator Rick Scott emphasized the symbolic importance of the flag in his statement.
“The American flag represents the pride and joy of being an American and the very values of a nation founded upon freedom, democracy and the American dream,” Sen. Scott said.
Especially against countries like China, which Scott alleges that wants to subvert the American way of life, he said that the law should be supported by highlighting the need of matching the manufacture of national emblems with national values.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz underlined the bipartisan character of the project in line with Scott, stressing the broad agreement on the subject and the need to strengthen rules to stop foreign companies from exploiting it.
“There is bipartisan agreement that American flags should be produced in America using American materials, but loopholes in existing laws still allow Chinese manufacturers to sell flags, including through fraudulently-branded websites. This bill would close those loopholes. Congress should take it up and expeditiously pass it,” Cruz said.
The Make American Flags in America Act of 2025 not only aims to remove the current purchase threshold that has permitted these oversights but also requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to generate an exhaustive report evaluating the application of these new rules. This report seeks to guarantee transparency and legal compliance, hence supporting the dedication to American production and workers.

Emphasizing the need of preserving the integrity of one of the most respected symbols, Senators Scott, Cruz, and Tillis asked their fellow Congress members to assist the bill’s rapid approval. The law seeks to maintain the integrity of what it means to show the flag by limiting production to domestic manufacturers, hence supporting U.S. industries and jobs.
The bill draws attention not just for its patriotic connotations but also as a kind of economic protectionism as it travels through the legislative process, so supporting the more general effort to improve American industrial capacity in front of worldwide competition.
