Miami, Florida – The Miami-Dade School Board recently made a crucial decision in their regular monthly meeting. They have awarded a substantial construction contract to further enhance the facilities at Frederick Douglass Elementary School. This project, valued at approximately $4,915,049.86, is part of the General Obligation Bond (GOB) initiative aimed at improving school infrastructure.
Veitia Padron Inc. (VPI) has been selected to undertake this important project. Their task is to construct an eight-classroom building addition at the school. This addition is set to provide a much-needed expansion to the school’s existing facilities.
Frederick Douglass Elementary School, located in Miami’s Historic Overtown, has a long history. The original building was built in 1953 and underwent a significant transformation in 2017 when it was replaced with a new facility. Currently, the school consists of a single building that accommodates 276 student stations.
The project’s scope is extensive and includes several key elements. These improvements consist of the addition of eight new classrooms, the construction of new covered walkways, and a covered physical education shelter. Additionally, the plan includes the restriping of the basketball court, the development of a primary playing area, and the creation of extra parking spaces.
These enhancements are set to significantly improve the educational environment and facilities for students at Frederick Douglass Elementary School.
