Broward County unveils long-awaited Omni hotel to boost global meetings and tourism

Broward County, Florida – The official opening of the Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel was a big step forward for Broward County’s convention district. County leaders and hospitality executives were there to cut the ribbon and celebrate. The opening marks the end of a long-planned expansion of the area around the Broward County Convention Center. It is part of a larger attempt to make the region a stronger player in the worldwide meetings and tourism sector.

County authorities said that the hotel was the main feature of a public-private collaboration that was part of a $1.3 billion investment to modernize and extend the convention center district. The goal of the project was to make it easier for large conventions and destination events that need high-end hotels right next to the event space.

According to Mayor Mark Bogen, the county chose Omni Hotels & Resorts because the brand has a lot of experience running conference hotels across North America. He said that the relationship was based on a shared commitment to providing high-quality service, operational knowledge, and long-term economic benefits for Broward County.

The hotel has 801 guest rooms, including 82 suites, and is expected to significantly increase the number of room nights and convention reservations each year. County administrators predict that more visitors coming to the area for big meetings and trade exhibits might bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity in the years to come. This would help local businesses and create jobs in the hospitality and service sectors.

Gayla Guyse, the hotel’s general manager, and Kurt Alexander, the president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, both spoke at the opening ceremony. They both stressed how important the hotel was to making the convention go smoothly.

The hotel has a resort-style pool deck, Mokara Spa, a modern fitness center, and about 120,000 square feet of space for meetings and events. It is linked directly to the larger convention center, which now has an extra 1.2 million square feet for events and exhibits.

The hotel is on the waterfront, making it simple to get to Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, neighboring beaches, and the area’s shopping and cultural attractions. This makes Broward County an even better place for conventions and tourism.
