City of Fort Lauderdale invites community to help guide Andrews Avenue’s multimillion-dollar makeover

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – As Broward County gets ready for a big set of repairs along Andrews Avenue, residents of Fort Lauderdale are being asked to help shape the future of this important corridor. On Wednesday, June 4, the city will organize a community meeting at ArtServe on East Sunrise Boulevard. This will give neighbors an opportunity to see for themselves what changes are coming and to speak up before work begins.

The planned changes will make Andrews Avenue safer, greener, and easier for everyone to get around. The planned improvements will span from Sunrise Boulevard to Oakland Park Boulevard. From 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the Broward County project team will go over the new design plans with locals, answer questions, and get feedback from the public. The people in charge are hoping for a big turnout because building won’t start until 2026, so there will be plenty of opportunity to make changes based on comments.

The changes that have been suggested are very broad. Sidewalks will be rebuilt to make it easier and safer for people to walk on them. The project also adds landscaped median islands and street trees north of NW/NE 16th Street. The goal is to cool the corridor and make it more welcoming.

A new signalized intersection will be built at NW/NE 11th Street to make the roads safer. Some older mid-block crosswalks, including the one south of NW/NE 11th Street, will be taken down to make traffic flow better.

Crosswalks and intersections will be a big focus. There are plans for new mid-block crosswalks in many places: just north of NW/NE 12th Street, south of NW/NE 14th Street, south of NE 15th Street, and north of NW 17th Street/NE 16th Place.

NW/NE 13th Street and NE/NW 16th Street will also get new mast arm signals. Drivers should have an easier time getting about during busy times now that Andrews Avenue has been widened to include a right-turn lane going south at Sunrise Boulevard.

Extra upgrades meet a variety of practical purposes. Crews will grind and resurface the road, put up new signs and pavement markings to make them easier to see, and fix the drainage systems to stop floods. There will also be new poles moved at the back of walkways to improve safety for people walking at night.

Individuals who live in the area who go to the meeting may look at renderings, talk about the benefits and drawbacks of the project, and give their thoughts or concerns directly to the persons in charge of building it. As Fort Lauderdale grows, it’s important for people who live and work nearby to be involved in making sure that significant projects meet their requirements. The city wants all interested residents to come out, learn more, and help shape the future look and feel of Andrews Avenue.
