Public safety crews unite in Broward to strengthen airborne emergency response
Broward County, Florida – Aviation crews often arrive when every second matters and ordinary routes are no longer enough. From searches over open water to emergencies unfolding on the ground, aircraft can give public safety teams the speed, reach and perspective needed to protect lives.
That life-saving role brought aviation professionals from across the United States to Broward County for the 2026 Airborne Public Safety Conference, known as APSCON 2026. Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony welcomed the participants, calling it an honor to host experts working at the intersection of aviation, technology and emergency response.

The conference created an opportunity for public safety aviation professionals to exchange knowledge, examine emerging technologies and strengthen relationships across agencies. For the Broward Sheriff’s Office, those conversations are not limited to aircraft operations. They are part of a broader effort to improve how public safety organizations respond on land, in the air and on the water.
“At the Broward Sheriff’s Office, we know aviation is a critical public safety resource that helps save lives, protect our communities and support missions on land, in the air and on the water,” Tony said.
BSO operates as a full-service public safety organization, making coordination between different disciplines an important part of its work. Aviation resources can support a wide range of missions, while collaboration allows crews and agencies to learn from one another’s experience.

Tony emphasized that bringing skilled professionals together can help move the entire field forward. Sharing new ideas, discussing developing equipment and improving training practices can strengthen aviation programs while also supporting the personnel who rely on them during critical incidents.
“As a full-service public safety organization, we believe it’s essential to bring together the brightest minds, share emerging technologies and strengthen partnerships that advance this profession,” Tony said.
“When we invest in innovation, collaboration and training, we don’t just improve aviation; we improve public safety.”
By hosting APSCON 2026, Broward County became a gathering point for professionals whose work frequently takes place above emergencies but remains closely connected to people on the ground. Tony thanked the attendees for their commitment and welcomed them to the county, recognizing the role they play in keeping communities safe across the country.
