Local fire department and National Weather Service team up for hands-on hurricane readiness event in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach, Florida – The City of Pompano Beach is getting ready to help local residents get ready for hurricane season with a hands-on, instructive community event that will help people become better prepared and resilient. The Pompano Beach Fire Department and the National Weather Service will host the 2025 Hurricane Season Kickoff on Thursday, June 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers at 100 W Atlantic Boulevard. It’s a free public event.

Everyone is welcome to the event, from people who have lived there for a long time to people who just moved there. The goal is to provide them the information and resources they need to confront the impending storm season with confidence. Experts from the National Weather Service will be there to give a full picture of what to expect in 2025, as well as important information about how storms behave and how to get ready for them.

Broward County officials will give meteorological updates and important information on emergency shelters, evacuation plans, and the Special Needs Registry. This will make sure that residents who are at risk get the help they need in case of a storm.

There will also be hands-on workshops and advice on how to make a good emergency kit, keep your home safe, and keep your loved ones safe. For families, it’s a chance to teach storm safety in a straightforward and easy-to-understand way, with hands-on activities and resources to take home.
