Florida AG brutally responds to Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar who called Trump ‘a failed dictator’: “Denaturalize and deport”

Florida – Florida’s Republican Attorney General, James Uthmeier, sparked additional controversy this week when he called for the denaturalization and deportation of Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a Democrat who has been openly critical of former President Donald Trump. The appeal came after Rep. Omar recently said on TV that the US military presence in public, like in cities across California, reminded her of her background in Somalia when there was a dictatorship.
The most recent flare-up began when Omar, the first African refugee and Muslim woman to be elected to Congress, appeared on “Democracy Now.” During her interview, she talked about seeing military vehicles on American streets and said that the country was moving far from the democratic norms that its founders set forth.
“To have democracy, a beacon of hope for the world, to now be turned into one of the worst countries where the military are in our streets without any regard for people’s constitutional rights; while our president is spending millions of dollars propping himself up like a failed dictator with a military parade—it is really shocking and should be a wake-up call for all Americans to say this is not the country we were born in, the country we believe in, the country our Founding Fathers imagined, and this is not the country supported by our Constitution, our ideals, our values,” Omar said.
Uthmeier, a Trump ally appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis, instantly responded online by demanding for Omar to be stripped of her citizenship and deported. His post on X (previously knwon as Twitter) hit a nerve and brought up long-running arguments in American politics over immigration and free speech. Uthmeier’s demand was clear: “Denaturalize and deport.”
The Attorney General’s comments come at a time when the national discussion over immigration, free speech, and the limits of political criticism is becoming more and more divided. Progressives and conservatives have been fighting a lot about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, especially during the Trump administration. Uthmeier and many other Republicans have called for stricter enforcement and even new laws aimed at punishing people they think are disloyal to American principles.

Omar arrived to the United States as a refugee in the 1990s and became a citizen. Her outspoken opinions on both domestic and foreign affairs have made her a target for political opponents. Some conservative media have also accused her of putting the needs of Somalia or Islam ahead of those of the U.S. She has vigorously disputed these claims, deeming them slanderous and misleading.
Uthmeier is not the only Republican to demand such drastic action against Omar. Texas State Representative Brandon Gill started a petition earlier this year asking for her deportation. Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has also asked for her to be removed from Congress and the country.
Omar, who was elected in 2019, has always fought back against what she calls attempts to suppress her.
This is just another example of the ongoing conflict between free speech, patriotism, and immigrant rights in American politics. As the country heads toward another difficult election season, this argument continues to affect the national conversation.
