Miami, Florida – The Northeast Corridor project marks a significant expansion in Miami-Dade County’s rail system, extending the Coastal Link from Downtown Miami to the City of Aventura. Spanning approximately 13.5 miles along the existing Florida East Coast (FEC) railway tracks, this initiative promises to enhance connectivity and ease transportation across the county and beyond.
The project is designed to seamlessly integrate with existing transportation networks, offering connections to Metromover, Metrorail, and TriRail at MiamiCentral station, as well as Brightline at both MiamiCentral and Aventura.
In a move to secure essential federal funding, Miami-Dade County has committed to advancing the project’s design work. The Northeast Corridor is a critical component of a broader vision for a tri-county “coastal link” rail system that would extend from Mangonia Park to MiamiCentral station, bridging the gap between Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
While Broward County has already outlined plans to integrate into this network, Palm Beach County has yet to join the initiative. The completion of the Northeast Corridor and the broader coastal link rail system will not only transform public transportation in the region but also stimulate economic growth and improve access to key destinations throughout South Florida.
