Miami, Florida – Miami International Airport (MIA) is undergoing significant changes that will affect passengers arriving at the facility. Starting May 1, 2024, construction for the Flamingo Parking garage extension will cause a reduction in available lanes on the lower drive (arrivals level) from concourses G to J, affecting doors 20 to 33. This change will continue until November 2024, necessitating adjustments for taxi operations and hotel shuttles, which will now operate from the departures level.
Planning Ahead for Travelers
Airport visitors are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling through this area during the construction period. To aid in managing the expected congestion and maintaining traffic flow, dedicated officers from the Miami-Dade Aviation Department will be stationed throughout the affected areas.

Expanding Parking Capacity at MIA
The construction is part of a broader initiative to expand MIA’s capacity and enhance its facilities. On February 20, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, along with county commissioners and representatives from MIA and Lemartec Corporation, celebrated the groundbreaking of the new parking structure.
Enhancements and Sustainability Features
This $136-million project is set to add 2,240 parking spaces across seven levels by the summer of 2026. Located next to the existing Flamingo garage, the expansion will not only increase parking availability for passengers and employees but also incorporate modern, sustainable features. The new structure will include 50 electric vehicle charging stations, energy-efficient LED lighting, and aims for Parksmart Silver Certification, highlighting its environmentally friendly design and operation.
