Trader Joe’s issues recall on sparkling water bottles sold in Florida, 11 other states over laceration concerns

Tallahassee, Florida – Trader Joe’s has issued a recall for about 61,500 glass bottles of Gerolsteiner sparkling water due to concerns that they may crack or break, posing a potential laceration hazard. This recall comes in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and affects bottles sold in twelve states across the country.

Between December 27, 2024, and January 28, 2025 the impacted bottles were available for purchase. States including Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas are included in the recall. Retailing at about $3.00 for every 750-milliliter bottle, the sparkling water could be purchased either separately or in sets of 15 bottles.

Reports and further research on the bottles breaking during manufacturing helped to identify the issue. The CPSC’s statement claims that the recall started once it was discovered that about 1% of the distributed bottles could potentially be impacted. These bottles were found to contain unique lot codes, indicating a greater likelihood of breaking and maybe causing glass injuries.

Trader Joe’s response to the situation has been proactive. They advised their consumers who bought bottles with lot codes 11/28/2024 L or 11/27/2024 L to avoid using the product immediately. Customers have been advised to carefully discard any impacted bottles and bring them back to any Trader Joe’s location in order for a complete refund. The store has stated that there is no evidence of purchase needed for the return; refunds will be given either cash or credit.

The popularity of the product adds even more relevance to this recall than the number of states involved. German-based Gerolsteiner is a well-known brand of sparkling water, imported from Germany, and its availability over a wide network of Trader Joe’s outlets suggests that the recall would affect a considerable number of consumers.

Consumers should pay attention to the recall and guarantee their safety by returning the recalled bottles, advises the CPSC. By eliminating all potentially dangerous bottles from their shelves and thereby reducing any additional chance of injury connected to this problem, Trader Joe’s has promised to guarantee the safety of its customers.
