Disney Cruise Line brings second new ship to Port Everglades as Broward County cruise industry continues growing

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Fort Lauderdale is preparing to welcome another major addition to its cruise industry, with Disney Cruise Line bringing a new ship to Port Everglades and giving families more vacation options from South Florida.

The arrival will also strengthen Broward County’s position as a leading cruise destination, adding another Disney vessel to a port that already serves millions of passengers each year.

Disney Cruise Line and Port Everglades announced that the Disney Believe will begin operating from Fort Lauderdale in December 2027. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for December 18, 2027, launching a series of four- and five-night cruises to The Bahamas and Caribbean.

The new ship will feature entertainment and attractions inspired by popular Disney stories, with a particular focus on courage, dreams and discovering new possibilities.

Among the highlights will be the first-ever stage adaptation of Disney’s animated film “Encanto.” Families will also find a new dining experience inspired by “Frozen,” while the ship’s Grand Hall will draw inspiration from the colorful ocean world of “Moana.”

“Port Everglades is an important home for Disney Cruise Line, and we’re honored to deepen our longstanding relationship as we welcome the Disney Believe to Fort Lauderdale,” said Tracy Wilson, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line Operations.

The announcement represents another important step in the company’s 15-year agreement with Port Everglades.

For Broward County, the expansion carries economic significance beyond cruise vacations. Additional sailings are expected to support tourism, local employment, hotels, restaurants and other businesses serving travelers.

Port Everglades is already among the world’s three busiest cruise homeports, with more than 5 million passengers anticipated during the current cruise season. Its location less than two miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport provides convenient access for travelers.

“Disney Cruise Line selecting Port Everglades as the homeport for its second new ship is an excellent outcome of our strong relationship,” said Joseph Morris, CEO and Port Director of Port Everglades.

Disney also plans to continue its community involvement throughout Broward County, supporting organizations working in education, youth programs, environmental conservation and charitable initiatives.

The announcement comes during a major expansion for Disney Cruise Line. The company currently operates eight ships and expects its fleet to reach 13 by late 2030.

Meanwhile, Disney is expanding operations in other markets, including additional sailings from San Diego and seven special voyages departing New York City in fall 2027.

Public bookings for Disney Believe cruises begin October 19, 2026, through Disney Cruise Line or authorized travel agents. Additional itinerary and onboard experience details are expected closer to the ship’s arrival.
