Broward County launches major Stirling Road bridge repair project, innovative approach for minimal traffic disruptions

Share

Broward County, Florida – By late summer, Cooper City residents and commuters could expect smoother travels as the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) starts a significant bridge reconstruction on Stirling Road. Primarily funded by gas revenue, this essential infrastructure update is set to start on February 3, 2025 and be completed by August.

Just west of South Flamingo Road, the bridge has been marked for structural improvements based on the most recent Florida Department of Transportation inspection report. The inspection underlined key problems requiring immediate repair to guarantee the bridge’s ongoing integrity and safety, which is an important conduit for both local and through traffic.

HBMD has developed a creative construction technique for this project in an effort to reduce disturbance. Unlike conventional methods that sometimes demand major work on the bridge deck, this new solution uses floating platforms to reach the underneath of the bridge. This approach decreases the disturbance to surrounding businesses and individuals in addition to the effect on the surface traffic.

Officials can complete most of the required repairs by using these floating platforms, therefore avoiding closing lanes during heavy traffic. One of the first of its kind in Florida, this approach shows the dedication to creativity and effectiveness in preserving the infrastructure.

There will be a brief period when disruptions are unavoidable even with the sophisticated methods being utilized. Two weeks of required deck waterproofing and resurfacing may need some partial lane closures. To minimize their effect on traffic flow, HBMD has planned these closures during off-peak hours.

Driveways and paths for pedestrians close to the bridge will remain open during the construction process, therefore guaranteeing that access to every property is maintained. Variable message signs will be positioned purposefully to inform pedestrians and drivers on the status of the construction and any traffic pattern adjustments.

The community’s patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as these essential repairs are carried out. Broward County is dedicated to make sure this project is finished with the least possible public disturbance and with maximum focus on quality and safety.
