Commissioner Krystal Patterson hosts free back-to-school backpack drive in Tamarac on June 27 for District 3 residents

Tamarac, Florida – Tamarac families in District 3 will have a chance to prepare early for the new school year through a free community giveaway aimed at helping local children walk into class ready and confident.

The City of Tamarac has announced the Bright Futures Back-to-School Backpack Drive, a free event hosted by Commissioner Krystal Patterson in partnership with the Children’s Services Council of Broward County. The backpack distribution is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Tephford Park, located at 10003 Southgate Blvd. in Tamarac.

The event is designed for District 3 families with children in elementary and middle school. Backpacks will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Each backpack will come filled with school supplies, giving students a helpful boost before classrooms reopen.

For many families, the back-to-school season can bring extra pressure. Supplies, bags and other classroom needs can add up quickly. This drive is meant to ease part of that burden while bringing neighbors together around a simple goal: helping children begin the year prepared.

Families planning to attend should note that the giveaway is only for District 3 residents. Proof of District 3 residency is required, and the event is limited to two backpacks per household. Residents are encouraged to arrive early because supplies are limited and distribution will continue only while backpacks remain available.

According to Patterson, the initiative is about more than handing out school supplies. It is also a way to support local youth, strengthen community engagement and promote kindness across the district. The event reflects a broader effort to invest in children and help families feel supported before the school year begins.

The important details are clear: elementary and middle school backpacks will be available, supplies will be included, the limit is two per household, and only District 3 residents with proof of residency may participate. Families should verify their District 3 residency in advance through the city’s official residency verification information when available.
