Memorial Day closures announced for Broward offices, parks and digital services still available

Broward County, Florida – As Memorial Day gets closer, residents of Broward County should keep in mind that most county government offices will be closed on Monday, May 26. The county closes for the federal holiday every year, but many important services will still be available online or by phone even while facilities are closed.
Broward.org, the county’s primary website, will still be up and running for anyone who need help. It will provide a lot of online options. People who live in the area can get information, complete transactions, and fill out paperwork without having to go to an office. The 311 Call Center and the Homeless Helpline will not be open today, however the Homeless Helpline will be available for urgent calls between 10 PM and 2 AM.
All Broward County Library branches will be closed for the holiday. Digital services, on the other hand, are available all the time. Residents can still browse the catalog, reserve books, stream movies, download music, and access e-magazines using the library’s website and mobile app. This makes sure that entertainment and resources are always available.
Even if many government offices are closed, people who like to be outside can still enjoy most of the county’s regional and neighborhood parks, nature centers, and natural areas. The only places that will stay closed are Deerfield Island Park, Markham Park Target Range, the Marine Environmental Education Center, and all park administrative offices. Open regional parks will charge $3 per vehicle for a holiday entry fee, and shelters and facilities may cost more to rent.
The schedule for public transportation will also change. Broward County Transit will run on a Sunday and holiday schedule, and regular customer service personnel will be accessible by phone to help people plan their bus and paratransit travels. There will be staff at important transit hubs in Fort Lauderdale, Lauderhill, and Pompano Beach, but the Express and Breeze bus routes will not run that day.
Even though administrative offices will be closed, Port Everglades and both the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport will keep their facilities open for tenants and travelers. Anyone who has questions about the airport can contact and get answers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Broward County Animal Care and Medical Examiner’s Office and other important services will be available in case of an emergency. Animal Care won’t be open for regular business, but homeowners should call 911 if they have an emergency involving an animal bite or an injured animal. On Tuesday, ordinary business will start again for things that aren’t urgent.
In the meantime, the Addiction Recovery Center and the Nancy J. Cotterman Center will keep running crisis and emergency services even while the offices are closed. The Broward Municipal Services District will still pick up trash, bulk items, and recycling on the same days as usual. However, the main county landfill will be closed and will open again the next day.
Broward County offices will be closed for Memorial Day, but the switch to online and remote access means that local residents may still get things done or get help if they need it. Residents are invited to visit the county’s official website for more information about any service.
