Infrastructure project to enhance pedestrian safety along Broward Boulevard in Plantation

Broward County, Florida – As Public Works Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division of Broward County is preparing for sidewalk and curb ramp improvements in Plantation, a major infrastructure project is scheduled to increase pedestrian accessibility and safety along Broward Boulevard.
Crews will begin repairing and upgrading current sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps along Broward Boulevard, from Hiatus Road to University Drive, Monday, February 24. The project seeks to increase accessibility, especially for those with mobility issues, therefore guaranteeing compliance to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project is scheduled for completion by August 29, 2025, barring any weather delays or unforeseen complications.
Construction will take place between 9 AM and 4 PM outside of peak times to reduce disturbance. Drivers should anticipate sporadic lane closures, which can cause minor local traffic congestion. Pedestrian access will also be temporarily impacted, with some driveways and sidewalks closed for one to two days at a time. To keep safe access, pedestrian traffic will be redirected to walkways on the other side of the street during closures.
Variable message signs will be positioned purposefully to let pedestrians and drivers know about the continuous work, therefore enabling them to make other route plans if needed.
